The U.K. stock market exhibited positive gains on Thursday, with the FTSE 100 Index increasing by 1.42% to reach 7,446.53.
Top Performing Companies
Among the constituents of the FTSE 100, Ocado Group PLC experienced the largest increase in share value, soaring by 7.00%.
British Land Co. PLC and Intermediate Capital Group PLC also witnessed significant growth, with their shares climbing by 6.93% and 5.73%, respectively.
Moreover, BT Group PLC and SEGRO PLC rounded out the top five performers, recording gains of 5.72% and 5.53%, respectively.
Top Declining Companies
Entain PLC, a prominent player in the gambling industry, faced the largest drop among FTSE 100 constituents, as its shares plummeted by 5.91%.
Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC and GSK PLC, both pharmaceutical companies, experienced decreases of 4.40% and 1.90% in their share values, respectively.
Additionally, Severn Trent PLC and BAE Systems PLC were among the top five companies with declines, as their stocks dropped by 1.22% and 1.07%, respectively.
Currency and Commodity Updates
The pound demonstrated some strength against the dollar, rising by 0.25% to $1.2180. However, it experienced a slight decline of 0.20% against the euro, reaching €1.1474.
Brent crude also witnessed an uptick, with a 1.9% increase to $86.28.
Furthermore, the yield on the 10-year gilt experienced a significant decrease of 11.210 basis points to settle at 4.387%.
