The Growing Demand for AI Semiconductors

0

During the Goldman Sachs Communacopia and Technology Conference in San Francisco, Lisa Su, the CEO of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), expressed her optimism regarding the strong demand for artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors.

A Priority on AI

Su emphasized that AI is a top priority for AMD, highlighting its significance by repeating “AI, AI, AI” as the first, second, and third priorities for the company. She noted that there has been an acceleration in AI engagements within the data center domain over the last thirty days, indicating a skyrocketing market.

Positive Momentum

This positive commentary from Su is a continuation of her previous statement during an earnings call on August 1st. At that time, she mentioned that AI customer engagements had grown by over seven times in the last quarter. The continued interest in AI further signifies that the market is still expanding and has not reached its peak.

An All-Inclusive Technology Portfolio

Su emphasized that AMD stands out from other companies by offering a comprehensive AI technology portfolio that includes both chips and software. Furthermore, AMD’s strong supply chain relationships enable the company to secure the necessary capacity for advanced chip packaging and advanced memory chips, establishing them as a major player in the field.

A Lucrative Market Outlook

Looking ahead, Su confirmed her expectations for the AI accelerator market in data centers to reach a staggering $150 billion by 2027. Additionally, she mentioned that AMD’s upcoming MI300 AI accelerator is set to launch during the fourth quarter, further solidifying their commitment to this rapidly growing sector.

AMD’s Performance

Over the past 12 months, AMD stock has seen a significant rise of approximately 37%, outperforming the 43% increase seen in the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX), which tracks the performance of the ICE Semiconductor Index.

In conclusion, Lisa Su’s positive outlook provides a glimpse into the thriving market for AI semiconductors. With its comprehensive technology portfolio and promising AI accelerator on the horizon, AMD is well-positioned to capitalize on this growing segment.
