Japanese shares continued to decline for the third day on Monday, October 23. The Nikkei 225 Index of Japanese companies weakened by 0.8% to 30,999.55. However, the Hong Kong Stock Exchange remained closed.
Meanwhile, Chinese companies also experienced a decrease in the stock market. The Shanghai Composite Index weakened by 1.5% to 2,939.29. In Singapore, the FTSE Straits Times Index declined by 0.6% to 3,057.90. Similarly, South Korean stocks fell as the KOSPI Composite Index dropped by 0.8% to 2,357.02. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 Benchmark Index also declined by 0.8% to 6,844.10.
Notably, within the Nikkei 225 Index, Shiseido, a cosmetics/toiletries company, saw the largest increase as its shares gained 3.3%. Moreover, Daiichi Sankyo and Astellas Pharma, pharmaceutical firms, witnessed a rise of 2.9% and 2.7%, respectively.
However, several companies experienced a decline in the Japanese market. Pacific Metals, a steel production company, saw the largest decrease as its shares weakened by 4.8%. Additionally, ENEOS Holdings, an integrated oil/gas firm, and Advantest Corp, a semiconductors company, both saw their shares drop by 3.0%.
