America’s Affordable Electric Vehicle: The 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV

0

The 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV is making waves in the electric vehicle market as America’s least-expensive option, starting at under $20,000. Although production has ceased, dealerships still have a significant inventory of Bolt EVs available for purchase.

Unbeatable Pricing

The official starting price for the Chevrolet Bolt EV is $26,500, with an additional $995 destination fee bringing the total window sticker price to $27,495.

Federal EV Tax Credit Update

Thanks to a recent change in federal EV tax credit law for 2024, most Americans now have the opportunity to use the Bolt’s $7,500 tax credit as a down payment. This means that buyers no longer have to wait until tax season to claim the credit. Instead, they can transfer it directly to the dealership and enjoy an out-the-door price of $19,995 (subject to income restrictions – $150,000 for single individuals and up to $300,000 for married couples filing jointly).

Additional State Incentives

In addition to the federal tax credit, many states also offer their own EV tax credits, further reducing the overall price of the Bolt.

Impressive Features and Comfort

Our expert test driver found the Chevrolet Bolt EV to be “easy to live with,” praising its smooth and quiet ride, responsive acceleration, and slightly elevated driving position. Despite its affordability, the Bolt’s cabin offers several creature comforts including comfortable front seats, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, an 8-inch digital driver information display, and a 10.2-inch infotainment touchscreen.

Limited Availability

With its substantial discount, the Bolt joins a rare class of vehicles priced under $20,000. In previous years, over 30 models fell into this category; however, this number is expected to decline to fewer than 10 in the upcoming year.
